Happy Birthday Thelma

January 30th, 2008

Thelma celebrated her birthday in style by having a party with 300 of her friends from as far away as Nigeria & the UK.  The party, held at The Banquet Hall of Jonesboro, was a colorful soiree with all of the ladies in traditional Nigerian dress.  It reminded me of a scene from one of my favorite movies, Coming to America.  I love the headpieces, or gele, I believe they’re called.  It’s the cure to a bad hair day.

I came across this blog post that I wanted to share.  A woman admits to stealing from her photographer by scanning photos instead of paying for them.  She felt guilty yet continues to do it because she feels entitled to more than what she paid for.  The original article has been removed because the website doesn’t want to advocate it.  But in comment #45 is a link to her original posting.

As a photographer this is very personal to me and it’s frustrating to read the views of consumers who don’t understand the business.  Other photographers have posted our point of view.  I understand (yet disagree) with some of the consumers point of views. Hopefully some of them will read the photographers’ responses and understand that point of view.

“Classic” Portraiture

January 12th, 2008

Most people who I’ve met don’t like to be photographed or don’t think they’re photogenic.  Now I understand why.

Laura & Sam’s Wedding

January 9th, 2008

My last wedding of 2007 was that of Laura & Sam’s on Dec 22, 07.  They were married on Emory University’s campus at the Cannon Chapel with the reception across the atrium at the Carlos Museum.  As is common in GA, it was chilly but not a cold day.  Laura had a beautiful bouquet from Foxgloves and Ivy, which included flowers from the Christmas Bush which only blooms 3 weeks out of the year.

Here are just a few of my favorites from the day.

VWC Mother Daughter Breakfast

January 9th, 2008

Okay I’m a little late on this post but I wanted to share some of my favorite photos anyway.  I photographed my church’s Mother Daughter Breakfast which was held at the Hilton Atlanta NE (also known as the Castle on the Hill) on Dec 15.  Both the pastor and her daughter spoke about nurturing relationships from their point of view.  Everyone in the audience had to write why they loved their mother or daughter and what was special about her.  It was great to see some of the ladies reaction to what the other wrote.  I encourage you to stop right now and hand write your mom or daughter or both a note about why they are so special.
